Access the SJSU Network using VPN

WARNING: Please note that all network traffic on your computer will go through the SJSU network while connected to SJSU's VPN. Keep this in mind when visiting websites for personal use.

The CSU Responsible Use Policy applies to all network activity on computers actively connected

Refer to the VPN.

MLML/MBARI Library services). If you are using the old MLML GlobalProtect VPN, you should migrate
Connect to AnyConnect.

Use theSJSU's VPN to access thesethe services:

  • Lab-specific NAS (network attached storage) devices
  • QuickBooks
  • MLML ArcGIS License Server
  • Virtual Machines hosted in MLML's server environment
  • Secure (Level 1) Department Network File Shares
  • Enrollment Services FileMaker databases (e.g. NextSteps)
  • SAMI Gateway
  • OnBase Unity Client
  • SJSU Research Foundation PI Dashboard

If you need to access MLML/MBARI Library course reserves or other services from offsite, please file an MLML IT Helpdesk ticket! The regular VPN will not work for these services.

InstallingDownload and install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client:client
  1. File an IT Help Desk ticket requesting access to the SJSU VPN.
    • You will
        receive
      • Windows
      • a reply when your account has been granted VPN access.
      • macOS
    • Download the AnyConnect client from SJSU's VPN download page.
      • When asked to sign in, click the drop-down box select the option that corresponds to your user type, either  Staff/Faculty SSO or Student:

      • Login with your SJSU ID number and password.
      • You will be redirected to a page to download the software for your operating system.
    • Install the AnyConnect client by opening the file you downloaded.

Connecting to SJSU's VPN:VPN
  1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect client.

  2. Enter "vpn.sjsu.edu" into the text box. ClickPress Connect.Connect.

  3. Select the group that corresponds to your user type:
    • Group: Select "Staff-Faculty-SSOSSO" or Student"Student".

  4. Authenticate using your SJSU user credentials
    • Username: Your 9-digit SJSUOne ID Number.

    • Password: Your SJSUOne password.

  5. Confirm the authentication using the Duo app on your smartphone or a Duo Fob.
    • You will be connected to the VPN after a few seconds.
    • If you wish to disconnect, open AnyConnect and click Disconnect.

NOTE: If you are unable to connect:

    • Disconnect from all other VPNs and try to connect again.
    • Restart your computer and try to connect again.
    • If you are still unable to connect, submit a Help Desk ticket for assistance.
